A habit of mine is to pick nervously, with my fingertips, at the part in my hair. Occasionally, I’ll catch myself in the middle of it and vow, forever and always, to cease all such picking. Minutes later, I’m doing it, again.
Of what value is this brief account to the reader? That’s not for me to say, entirely — although, it’s quite possible that it serves as a template for most of those behaviors we regard as vices.
