Meaningful Writing, A Technique for the Production Of

The closer I am to the page, the more meaningful is the writing I produce. From four inches to two inches: that’s double the meaning. From two down to one: same thing. And so on.

One time, I got so close to the page, I actually entered inside of it. That’s still my best thing I’ve ever written, I think. Justin disagrees — but Justin is also contrary for the sake of it.

  1. Benoît Mandelbrot approves of your first paragraph, but thinks the second is the dumbest thing you have ever typed, or will ever type; I, his medium, will add that said paragraph does not merit the word “written.

This passage, including the doubtful identification of meaningfulness with bestness, is indicative of late early Cistulli: displaying the insouciance and smelly masculinity of the early early work but without the (charming) wilfullness, (seemingly incidental) coherence, disguised craftsmanship, (very) occasional variety and all other virtues for which it is usually appreciated.
