First, he read the one- and two-page stories of Lydia Davis. Finding no little merit in these, he proceeded to the three-, four-, and five-page ones — from which endeavor he also derived satisfaction. Recently, he’s begun the stories by Lydia Davis that are between six and ten pages. While he expects to be pleased, he’s withholding judgment.
