On Apathy as Definitely a Virtue

Even a cursory understanding of our cosmic irrelevance liberates us — or, at least, ought to liberate us — from the awful burden of cultivating success, of exerting ourselves to no end. Apathy, commonly regarded as an affliction, is precisely the opposite. A sage, if such a thing were to exist, would have no interest even in lifting his head.
